Short answer: cork if you put weight on the block in standing poses, foam if you mostly use it under your back, head or knees – or want the cheapest start.

For desk workers

Most people who sit all day use a block for two things: lunges and forward bends with tight hips, and lying support for the back or chest. If you are unsure, start with one foam block – add a cork block later if you notice you lean on it a lot.

One or two?

One block is enough to start. Two make the low lunge and chest opener more comfortable because both hands or shoulders are supported evenly.
