High-Protein Apple Crumble: 25 g Protein Per Bowl

High-Protein Apple Crumble: 25 g Protein Per Bowl

Apple crumble is the best thing about autumn. This version keeps the crunchy topping and the warm apples, and adds a proper dose of protein.

A classic crumble is apples, butter, flour and sugar, with almost no protein. Swap the flour for oats and ground almonds, add a little protein powder to the topping and serve it with skyr instead of custard.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make it without protein powder?

Yes. The skyr on top brings most of the protein. Without powder in the topping, each bowl still has roughly 20 g.

Can I eat apple crumble for breakfast?

With skyr it is basically warm baked oats with fruit – a perfectly good high-protein breakfast. See high-protein baked oats.

How long does it keep?

3 days in the fridge. Reheat in the oven to keep the topping crunchy.

Protein values are approximate and vary by brand and portion. If you have a medical condition or food allergy, check with a doctor or dietitian before changing your diet.
